Politico Women Rule Summit Attracts 400 Female Leaders to Ask, “Where Do We Go From Here?”

December 10, 2019

2018 was dubbed the “Year of the Woman,” and the past two years have ushered in many positive changes for women in the workplace from Wall Street to Main Street to Capitol Hill.

Looking at the changes that have occurred and asking “Where are we now?” was the focus of Politico’s 2019 Women Rule Summit, held December 10th in Washington, DC.

More than 400 leaders, primarily women but also men who are championing change within their organizations, convened for a full day of impactful and empowering conversations around four pillars -- Running, Leading, Earning and Building.

We heard from Members of Congress, including several new representatives from the Class of 2018 who helped raise the female ratio on Capital Hill to 23.6 percent.  We also heard from trailblazers and disrupters who are writing interesting screenplays and influencing content to ensure women are accurately and positively portrayed in pop culture.  And we heard from women entrepreneurs who represent the 12.3 million businesses which are now owned by women, and which drive $1.8 trillion a year in economic activity and are responsible for creating more than 9.2 million jobs.

After high-impact, candid and engaging conversations examining questions like, “How women can leverage our investment power?” and “What does it take to be a leader?” the Summit ended with an awards ceremony and tribute to one women who exemplifies each of the four categories of Running, Leading, Earning and Building.

I was honored and humbled to be invited on stage to accept the “Woman of Impact” award in the Building category.  Politico selected me not only for the two consumer product companies I built, Chesapeake Bay Candle and BlissLiving Home, but for my third venture, meixu.com which ignites women’s business by amplifying their creativity and talent, and delivering resources and solutions to overcome barriers so they can succeed.
